Author Talk: Edward Achorn, with Special Guest Dr. Marcia Young

Join us at the mansion for an evening with Edward Achorn, author of The Lincoln Miracle, the vivid, behind-the-scenes story of perhaps the most consequential political moment in American history—Abraham Lincoln’s history-changing nomination to lead the Republican Party in the 1860 presidential election.

Achorn will use historic images to illustrate the miracle of Lincoln’s nomination in May 1860, and the crucial role played by his manager, David Davis. In an exclusive presentation for mansion patrons, Achorn will discuss the relationship between these two men, and how their very different personalities combined perfectly to make Lincoln’s extraordinary rise to the White House possible.

After Lincoln’s assassination, David Davis became a nationally renowned political figure, instrumental in preserving Lincoln’s presidential papers and in shaping the early narratives of the Lincoln legacy. During the evening’s second presentation, Dr. Marcia Young, author of The David Davis Mansion 1872-2022: 150 Years at Clover Lawn, will share several little-known stories that provide fascinating insights into Davis’s life during the post-Lincoln years.

Copies of Edward Achorn’s books (The Lincoln Miracle and Every Drop of Blood) as well as Dr. Marcia Young’s book (The David Davis Mansion, 1872-2022: 150 Years at Clover Lawn) will be available for purchase after the program in the Clover Lawn Museum shop, inside the David Davis Mansion.

A short reception and book-signing will follow.
