Into the Woods
Most fairy tales start with “once upon a time” and end with “happily every after,” but Into the Woods takes the audience on a journey into a fantastical world where the classic fairy tales take a wild turn and teach important new lessons. A childless baker and his wife, desperate for a family, must break a witch’s curse in order to make their dreams come true. On their quest, they encounter many well-known characters including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack & the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and Rapunzel. This extraordinary musical covers multiple themes including growing up, accepting responsibility, morality, and the consequences of wish fulfillment.
Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The original Into the Woods production won the 1988 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. The show was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won 3—Best Score, Best Book and Best Actress in a Musical.
Into the Woods at Community Players Theatre is directed by Sally Parry and produced by Darlene Lloyd and Ashleigh Rae-Lynn Feger. The production will be accompanied by a live orchestra.
