Nomad Theatre presents Pop-Up HERstory: A Spotlight on Women Who Changed the World
This Women’s History Month, Nomad Theatre Company proudly presents their third installment of Pop-Up HERstory, an immersive theatrical experience that brings the stories of remarkable women from history to life. As part of the company’s Detour projects, this unique production spotlights real women who have left an indelible mark on history, sharing their stories through original monologues and scenes written by local writers.
This year’s featured historical figures include:
Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797)—feminist philosopher played by Anne Cook & Mary Shelley (1797-1851)—writer of Frankenstein played by Jackie Cook]
Jane Addams (1860-1935)—social worker and world peace advocate [played by Ann B. White]
Claudette Colvin (1939-2026)—Civil Rights activist [played by Darraugh Maxine]
Sally Ride (1951-2012)—astronaut [played by Jem Darragh]
Tammi Terrell (1945-1970)—Motown singer [played by Catrina Parker]
Sophie Scholl (1921-1943)—Hitler youth turned anti-Nazi [played by Hannah Brown]
Josephine Baker (1906-1975)—dancer, spy, activist [played by Shay Turner]
Jane Goodall (1934-2025)—primatologist and anthropologist [played by Diane Boeck] & Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717)—naturalist and artist (scientific illustrator) [played by Patti Geske]
Their inspiring journeys will be performed amidst the book stacks of both the Bloomington Public Library and Normal Public Library.
Event Details:
Audience members are invited to explore the library at their own pace, with featured monologues happening every 15 minutes. The full experience takes approximately 90 minutes, but guests are welcome to stay for as many stories as they’d like. Maps and programs outlining the event will be available on site.
This event is free and open to all ages. As a women-founded nonprofit, Nomad Theatre Company welcomes donations to support its continued growth—details on how to contribute will be available at the event.
Normal Public Library: March 21 and 22 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Bloomington Public Library: March 28: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and March 29 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
