Wheelchair Basketball 2017

On Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m., the doors will open at Kingsley Junior High. Guests will get to see a team of coaches and members from Be Strong, a local gym in Bloomington
(, practice in the specialized wheelchairs used in wheelchair basketball and then play an exciting game against members of the University of Illinois men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams. The game begins at 11:00 a.m.

In addition to the spectacular game, the event will feature concessions with help from the Bloomington-Normal Jaycees, a silent auction with the help of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Tau Tau Chapter, face painting and balloons by The Zoo Lady and her Zoo Crew, a 50/50 raffle, and a door prize. DJ and music services will be provided by Wayne’s Music World. Photography will be provided by Kathy Owen Photography.

Tickets are $5 each; children 5 and under may attend for free. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at LIFE CIL (2201 Eastland Drive, Suite 1, Bloomington). Tickets will also be sold at the door.

The event raises awareness of opportunities for persons with disabilities, increases funds for LIFE CIL services that assist people with disabilities in our community, and funds two scholarships for local youth to attend the University of Illinois Youth Wheelchair Sports Camps this summer. LIFE CIL assists persons with disabilities to achieve and maintain independent lifestyles in DeWitt, Ford, Livingston and McLean Counties.
