Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy
When wannabe diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, the cops hide her in the one place no one would think to look—a convent! Disguised as a nun, she tries to cope with the rigid lifestyle and a strict Mother Superior. When her disco dance moves and killer voice inspire the failing church choir, new fame is brought to the church and Deloris’s cover is blown. A nun-on-the-run, she finds salvation in the power of her new sisterhood.
Sister Act was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2011, including best musical and best original score. The show features original music by Tony and eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. The original West End production opened on June 2, 2009 at the London Palladium, and was produced by Stage Entertainment and Whoopi Goldberg.
