Sinew: Naomi Whiting Towner

MCAC presents the work of the late Naomi Whiting Towner from our permanent collection. Towner, who passed away last year, was a nationally-known fiber artist based in Bloomington. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in textile design in 1962 from the Rhode Island School of Design and her Master of Fine Arts in textiles at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She was a faculty member at Illinois State University from 1966 to 1999, when she retired as a full professor of fiber arts. She exhibited and traveled widely, lecturing at artistic events throughout the nation, and studying textile design in Europe and Africa.
