Porcelaine by Katherine Tauscher & Mixed Media by John Humphries
Katherine Tauscher is a Bloomington, Illinois ceramic artist who makes hand-built, functional work using the process of pinching. Pinching allows Tauscher to enjoy the innate, tactile beauty of working with clay. It also leaves behind a textured surface that is both visually and physically interesting and references the human hand.
John Humphries teaches Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Humphries makes drawings that link the visual language of landscape, color theory, and constructed elements. The watercolor drawings are made by researching and codifying a particular myth, character, or phenomena. The representation of this code is rendered in the form of gestures, some drafted lines and curves, some of collaged photographic elements, and other constructed pieces of wood floating above the plane of the paper.
