Midwest Institute of Opera Presents Candey’s Sweets by Kate (World Premiere) & Ravel’s The Bewitched Child


The Midwest Institute of Opera presents a double bill of Ravel’s The Bewitched Child & Candey’s Sweets by Kate (World Premiere).

Ravel’s The Bewitched Child
Come and meet the little boy who is sent to his room for not doing his homework. Once in his room, he falls asleep and is transported to a magical world where the objects in his room can talk, storybook characters from his books come to life and where the plants and animals from his yard have a score to settle with him. The cast of characters includes: Princess Elsa (Frozen), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), a group of mystical dancing fairies and a headstrong little boy with some lessons to learn.
The opera will be in English with English supertitles. This opera will be presented first and is appropriate for all ages.

Candey’s Sweet by Kate (World Premiere)
For the first time ever the opera Sweets by Kate makes it premiere in Normal, Illinois! The opera takes place in a small town in California in the 1950’s, here a small candy shoppe is struggle to survive. The shop’s owner suddenly passes away and his estranged daughter returns to her hometown to run the shop but is confronted with a variety of prejudice, questions and elements of the mystical. The opera will be sung in English with English supertitles and is intended for mature audiences.
