Lunch and Learn: “Whiskey vs Lager Beer – Bejabers:” The Irish, the bete noir of Lincoln’s Republican Party

Join the McLean County Museum of History and Illinois Wesleyan University for the seventh Lunch & Learn of the 2022-2023 season with Greg Koos, Emeritus Executive Director of the Museum. This free, public program will be held on March 9 at 12:10 pm in the Museum’s second floor courtroom.

This presentation will examine how the Irish became Democrats. The Republican Party coalition wished to retain the anti-immigrant vote, accusing the Roman Catholic Irish immigrants as a threat to order and democracy.
