Kenyan Cultural Crops Field Day with Janet Zintambila
The Women Who Farm Field Day Series is coming to CHJ Umoja Family Gardens in Carlock, IL!
Have an interest in ancient grains or the agricultural heritage and practices of East-Africa? Then you will love the third field day in our series. Janet Zintambila came to the Midwest from Kenya, Africa, over 40 years ago and with her came the flavors of her childhood. White maize and amaranth leaves are staples of Kenyan cuisine and Janet has brought them to central Illinois on her 4 acre U-Pick farm. Explore these and other East-African crops with Janet at her McLean County farm.
Delicious, fresh, local refreshments will be provided to replenish the body, cool the summer heat, and facilitate getting to know each other. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!
Join us for a beautiful day of Kenyan culture and crops! Registration is $15 and includes a farm tour, refreshments, and a hands-on learning activity. Everyone is welcome to attend.
