Central Illinois’ premier green event, the Illinois Sustainable Living and Wellness Expo, will return on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Illinois Wesleyan University Shirk Center. Sponsored by the Illinois Wesleyan University Wellness Program and the Ecology Action Center, the Expo is free and open to the public. Thanks to the help of Midwest Fiber, the ISLWExpo is the largest Zero Waste event in central Illinois. Sustainable commuting to the event is encouraged, with free valet-style bike parking provided by the Friends of the Constitution Trail, free bike tune-ups by Walk-In Bike-Out, and free rides to and from the ISLWExpo provided by Connect Transit.*

The ISLWExpo will once again offer MEGA Recycling in the Shirk Center Parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with one-stop recycling of items such as household electronics (no tube style TVs), clothing and other textiles, eyeglasses, hearing aids, Christmas lights, corrugated plastic campaign signs, and Terracycle items.

This year’s theme of “Sustainable Science and Industry” will be supported by multiple workshops including a panel discussion on global warming moderated by WGLT’s Mike McCurdy, a presentation on “green chemistry” by IWU professor Ram Mohan and a “Solar Power Hour” information presentation.

There will be fun activities for the whole family and dozens of exhibitors will provide information on healthy and sustainable living.
