Friends of TAP (The Autism Place) Trivia Night
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with trivia competition beginning at 6:30 p.m. Cost to participate is $240 for a team of 8, $35 per person or $70 per couple and includes dinner by BraiZe. The evening will also include a silent auction featuring products and services from local businesses.
TAP at Illinois State University was established in 2007 as part of the statewide network of support provided under The Autism Program of Illinois. At the beginning of 2015, the service network consisted of 17 partners and 19 locations. Due to the budget uncertainty, several locations have had to close. TAP at ISU is in danger of closing as well, and without an influx of donations, will lose the ability to service families in McLean County and the surrounding areas.
Locally, TAP at Illinois State University services more than 100 families. Critical services provided by TAP include intervention for children and their families, consultation with schools and families, training to professionals and parents, and evaluation of intervention effectiveness. In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control reported that as many as 1 in 68 children could have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of the services offered by TAP cannot be obtained through other avenues.
