Barefoot in the Park

Community Players Theatre presents Barefoot in the park, a romantic comedy by Neil Simon. This classic story follows Paul and Corie Bratter during that ever-so-delicate time every married couple remembers: after the honeymoon.

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word, fresh off their honeymoon, and settling into their first home together. Love is certainly in the air—five flights up, exactly (six, if you don’t count the front stoop)—in their tiny, top floor apartment of a brownstone in New York City. Corrie is cheery and optimistic about their future together, while Paul, a bit more calculated and grounded, worries about the many flaws in the apartment and how they might overcome the hole in the skylight, their leaky closet, and the lack of a bathtub.

Shortly after moving in, free-spirited Corrie attempts to set her unequivocally straight-laced mother up with their eccentric neighbor, Mr. Velasco—unintentionally instigating her first major fight with her new husband. During the course of several days, Corie and Paul learn to live together while facing the daily ups-and-downs of post-honeymoon life, coming to terms with their differences and discovering whether love can truly conquer all.
