24th Annual Glorious Garden Walk
Great news! The Glorious Garden Festival Garden Walk is still on for 2020, but has been rescheduled!
Garden lovers can put on their walking shoes July 10-11 and discover some beautiful gardens in the Bloomington-Normal area during the 24th Annual Glorious Garden Festival Garden Walk: Garden Visions! The walk is a fundraiser for the David Davis Mansion Foundation, which provides private support for the state-operated David Davis Mansion State Historic Site.
This year’s Garden Walk offers walk-through tours of 9 private gardens in the Bloomington-Normal area. Hours are 1pm to 8pm on Friday, July 10, and 9am to 3pm on Saturday, July 11. The Garden Walk will be held rain or shine.
*** Please note that it is our #1 concern to keep everyone safe and adhere to the latest guidelines from the state regarding social distancing and mask use. As this is a fluid situation which constantly changes, please see our Facebook event page, or our website at daviddavismansion.org for the latest safety requirements to participate in this event. ***
– If the David Davis Mansion has been given permission by the state to be re-opened to the public by July 10, the Garden Walk will begin on the grounds of the David Davis Mansion at 1000 Monroe Drive in Bloomington. Easy ticket and map pick-up, with drive-through service and free parking on the Mansion grounds, will available during the entire event weekend. Garden walkers will be encouraged to visit Sarah’s Garden, shop at the Clover Lawn Museum Shop inside the mansion, and can take a walk-thru tour of the David Davis Mansion.
– If the David Davis Mansion is NOT yet open by orders of the state, tickets and maps will be picked up at Bloomington Junior High school via the drive-through drop-off lane. In this case, Sarah’s Garden, the Clover Lawn Museum Shop, and the David Davis Mansion itself will not be a part of the Glorious Garden Festival.
Again, please see this Facebook event page or daviddavismansion.org closer to the event date for final word on the location you will use to pick up your tickets and maps on the day of the event AND the safety rules for the day.
After map and ticket pick-up the garden walkers can head out to see the private gardens at their own pace. The tickets are good for both days so they can travel at their own pace and see some gardens on Friday and the remainder on Saturday.
Tickets are $18 in advance and $10 for anyone under 18 and may be purchased in advance starting June 15 at area garden vendors in Bloomington-Normal (please check back for list) or online at daviddavismansion.org.
Advanced tickets may be purchased until Thursday, July 9 at noon at area garden vendors and until 4:30pm online.
Members of the David Davis Mansion receive a 20% discount on up to 2 tickets and may purchase those by calling Sheri Brownfield at the David Davis Mansion Visitor’s Center at 309-828-1084.
Tickets may be also be purchased the day of the event at the map pick-up location for $20.
The tour includes a variety of do-it-yourself gardens and some that have had help from professional landscapers. All the gardens and yards give garden walkers creative ideas they can use in their own homes. Garden owners and staff representing local landscape sponsors may be on hand to provide expertise and insights in some of the gardens. Visitors are sure to be inspired by the creativity of some of the community’s most talented gardeners.
The David Davis Mansion State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, was built in 1872 for Supreme Court Justice David Davis and his wife, Sarah. The site is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9am-3:30pm for free public tours.
