Activities for Memorial Day Weekend in BN

With Memorial Day looking a little different this year, we came up with some ways to still enjoy the holiday weekend while continuing to keep everyone safe! In addition to honoring our country’s veterans and active service members, Memorial Day weekend is an unofficial kick off to Summer! Here are some fun things to do this weekend with family and friends while social distancing!

1. Shop Local for your Cookout

You can’t celebrate Memorial Day without a cookout! Shop from our local meat shops and grocery stores for all of your grilling needs! It may be too late to pickup from the Downtown Bloomington Farmers’ Market for this weekend, but starting Sunday, May 24th the online ordering will be open so you can pick up fresh veggies, produce, and more next Saturday, May 29th!

2. Eat Local If You’d Rather Not Cook

Although we are not able to dine at our favorite local restaurants just yet, you can still pickup a delicious Memorial Day meal curbside! Many restaurants are offering BBQ Memorial Day specials and packages. If you would prefer to just relax and spend the weekend not cooking, eat local! They will have the delicious meals ready for you at curbside, and the best part is – no cooking for you!

3. Head for the Greens

Grab a buddy and tee it up at one of our many golf courses! Be sure to check out the courses COVID-19 new guidelines to ensure your safety.

4. Ride the Constitution Trail

May is National Bike Month! Pump up your tires, get your helmet ready, and hit the 45+ mile trail that weaves through Bloomington-Normal. Stop in Uptown Normal along the way for a sweet treat at Emack and Bolios or in Downtown Bloomington to snap a picture with Mr. Abraham Lincoln at the McLean County Museum of History/Cruisin’ with Lincoln on 66 Visitors Center.

5. Visit the Great Outdoors

Get outside, enjoy all of the great outdoors in our community, and maybe even have a family picnic! Boating and Fishing are allowed at Lake Bloomington, however, please review the guidelines before heading out to the Lake. The Sugar Grove Nature Center trails are open for you to explore, hike, walk, or jog! The Evergreen Lake boat launches are available along with the multi-use trails that surround the lake. You can also venture out to Moraine View State Park and enjoy fishing, hiking trails, the archery range, and horse trails.  There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy this weekend!

6. Honor our Veterans at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery

Evergreen Memorial Cemetery hosts the Avenue of the Flags each year to honor our nation’s heroes and remember their dedication, achievements, and courage. Take a drive through the Cemetery to celebrate those that this weekend is all about.
