St. Patrick’s Day in BN

The Irish are known for their irrepressible optimism, kindly openness and vivacious spirit. Each year on March 17, Irish and non-Irish alike gather to celebrate the feast day of the patron saint of the Emerald Isle, St. Patrick. Here are some of the events that are happening in BN that will help you get into the Irish spirit!

 

Spring Bloom Arts Festival
March 17
ISU Brown Ballroom 10 am – 4 pm
The Spring Bloom Arts Festival is a juried show of fine art and craft featuring 70 exhibitors from across the Midwest. The artist’s work on display will include paintings, jewelry, glass, ceramics, fiber, sculpture and live music.

 

Saint Paddy’s Skate
March 17
Pepsi Ice Center 12:40 – 1:55 pm
Wear green to receive $1 off of admission at the Saint Paddy’s Skate at the Pepsi Ice Center. Skaters can skate to Irish songs, enjoy specialty treats and compete in the best-dressed leprechaun contest.

 

Sharin’ of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Parade
March 17
Uptown Normal 2 – 4 pm
Put on your green gear and head to Uptown Normal for the 8th Annual Sharin’ of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade begins at the corner of South School Street and North Street and ends at the corner of East Beaufort and Linden Street.

 

A Wee Bit O’ the Irish Tea
March 18
Vrooman Mansion 1 – 2:30 pm
This program presented by the Tea Ladies focuses on the Irish in America and what it was like to be “in service” in an upper-class Victorian home. Learn how these strong men and women who came to the shores of America risked everything to start life over in a new country.
