The Museum of Americana Poetry Reading

Held in the historic gov. Fifer Courtroom, three poets connected with the online magazine The Museum of Americana will read poems that explore aspects of American history and Americana in the courtroom of the McLean County Museum of History.
Originally from the flatlands of central Illinois, Justin Hamm now lives near Twain territory in Missouri. He is the founding editor of the museum of americana and the author of American Ephemeral (forthcoming, 2017) and Lessons in Ruin, both from Aldrich Press, as well as two poetry chapbooks. His poems or stories have appeared, or will soon appear, in Nimrod, The Midwest Quarterly, Cream City Review, Sugar House Review, and a host of other publications. Recent work has also been selected for New Poetry from the Midwest (New American Press, 2014) and the Stanley Hanks Memorial Poetry Prize from the St. Louis Poetry Center.
Tim Hunt’s publications include Fault Lines (2009, The Backwaters Press); The Tao of Twang (2014, CW Books); Poem’s Poems & Other Poems (2016, CW Books); and the chapbooks Redneck Yoga, White Levis, and Thirteen Ways of Talking to a Blackbird. His work has appeared in such journals as CutBank, Epoch, Quarterly West, and Rhino. He has been awarded the Chester H. Jones National Prize for Poetry and thrice nominated for the Pushcart Prize. His scholarly publications include The Textuality of Soulwork: Jack Kerouac’s Search for Spontaneous Prose, Kerouac’s Crooked Road: Development of a Fiction; and the five-volume edition The Collected Poetry of Robinson Jeffers. Originally from the quicksilver mining region of Northern California, he is University Professor of English at Illinois State University. He and his wife Susan live in Normal.
Kathleen Kirk is the poetry editor for Escape Into Life, an online magazine, and a former co-editor of RHINO Magazine. She helps to host an open mic series, Poetry is Normal, at the Normal Public Library every other month on the third Thursday at 7:30 in the library’s Café. Kirk is the author of six poetry chapbooks, most recently ABCs of Women’s Work (Red Bird, 2015). Her work appears in many print and online journals, including Arsenic Lobster, Crab Creek Review, The Fourth River, and Poetry East, as well as The Museum of Americana. Her poem “Parallel Lives” will appear in New Poetry from the Midwest (New American Press, 2016). She taught English and Creative Writing at DePaul University and Lincoln College.
