Race to the McLean County Museum of History for a special weekend matinee of Cars (2006) on Saturday, August 3. Pre-movie activities kick off at 1:15 p.m., and the film begins at 2:15 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Before the film, we’ll work together to create a one-of-a-kind viewing experience. Using fun materials, your imagination, and a little bit of elbow grease, we will transform a cardboard box into a car of your own design. Once the transformation is complete, we’ll take our new rides upstairs to create a cardboard box drive-in theater. Please bring your own box for this activity. (Additional seating will be available during the film.)
At 2:15 p.m., we’ll settle in to watch Cars, the story of a hot-shot race car named Lightning McQueen, who becomes stranded in Radiator Springs, meets the locals, and ultimately discovers the true meaning of friendship. Before you speed off, examine rarely-seen, movie-themed objects from the Museum’s collection.
Those in attendance will be eligible to win prizes. Bring in new school supplies for the Back 2 School Alliance supply drive and receive a free bag of popcorn. Check the Alliance’s website for a list of approved items: https://bit.ly/2I3s7fv. Cars has a run time of 1 hour 57 minutes and is rated G. Drinks, treats, and popcorn will be available for purchase.
This event is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s temporary exhibit, Pedal Power!, which features dozens of pedal-powered vehicles from the Bruce Callis Pedal Car Collection. Pedal Power! is sponsored by State Farm.
